A ‘proper’ Lakeland pub

This is the famous Eagle & Child Inn, situated in the lovely Lakeland village of Staveley.

We are a ‘proper pub’, one of the few remaining traditional Freehouse’s in the Lake district, proud to serve Cumbrian Ale’s and support our valuable local supplier’s.

Come & visit our unique hostelry brimming with years of collected antique’s & paraphernalia from year’s gone by, enjoy a beer by the fire, a local Lager in our Riverside beer Garden or a tasty bar meal on our lovely Decking.

The Eagle & Child inn is an ideal location for exploring the rest of the Lake District. We are only a few minutes away from the beautiful Kentmere valley and the bustling towns of Windermere and Kendal.

We look forward to welcoming you soon…

“Many thanks indeed for welcoming us so warmly to the Eagle & Child Inn on a wet and windy October day. The sight of your log fire and a superb selection of real ales and delicious food raised our spirits after a wonderful but windswept walk in your lovely countryside.”

Staveley itself has much to offer – excellent walking, fishing, cycling, and a vibrant array of local businesses including Hawkshead Brewery & Wheelbase the largest bike shop in the UK.

A fantastic location for walking from the doorstep… or a short drive to the Central Lakes in Windermere & Ambleside.

Further afield Keswick or going south the beautiful Furness peninsular.

Either way a great base to return to!

Among the notable recognitions we have received are:

  • Westmorland Gazette Pub of the Year 2007
  • Camra Westmorland Pub of the Year 07 -08
  • Camra Good Beer Guide since 2000
  • AA 3 Stars for Quality

What set apart this Lake District Inn are the superb beer garden by the river, the tranquil gardens and terrace to the rear, and the Redmond Suite which can be booked for functions.
